Chongqing Information Engineering College （CIEC）is a private joint-stock school that focuses on cultivating the talents of its 22,000 students in disciplines including machinery, electronics, information technology, modern management.

　　In order to maximize the natural talent each of our students possesses, we conduct the unique “3+1” pattern for fostering those talents. In other words, our students must get three certificates, such as being a qualified person, mastering one skill, and passing the professional exam before they can get their undergraduate diploma. We have found this pattern is the best way for students to become both expert in one area and good and versatile in many others.

　　The department offers the following specialities: Electronic Information, Electronic Technology and Computer, Auto Electronic Engineering, Machinery Electronic and Mechanical Design and Automation etc.

　　This Department is fully equipped with various necessary modern instruments about 5000 sets. There are electronic labs, acoustic image labs, communication labs, and satellite-supporting interactive teaching system. The students majoring in the electronic information engineering, electronic technology and computer are especially popular with the enterprises. Our department is mainly oriented by the cultivation of the capable and innovational talents in the area of electronics, communication, and computer hardware for the large-sized enterprises home and abroad. .

　　The department offers nine specialities: Computer Technology, Computer Network Engineering, Information Management, Computer Security Maintenance, Cartoon Design, and Software Design and Development.

　　A lot of labs and computer rooms (including: multimedia-classroom and research room, lab for computer composition principle, lab for micro-computer principle and porting technology, computer network lab, opening room for computer network and computer rooms open to teachers) have successively been built; tens of millions RMB yuan has been added to the fixed investments, which results in a tremendous improvement in the laboratory scale. The teaching aim of the department is to cultivate the advanced talents that master systematically the knowledge of computer science technology (hardware, software, fundamental principles, and skills for computer application) and enable them to competently deal with the computer affairs in the field of scientific research, education and application etc in science and research departments, education units, enterprises, various institutions, and technological and administrative departments.

　　This department is the fastest developing one with the following majors: Business Administration, Law Science, Financial Insurance, Tourism, Hotel Management, E-commerce, Marketing, etc.

　　The teaching aim is to train the students to be compound talents who will have mastered the fundamental theory, basic knowledge and related skill of modern-enterprise management. Students are also expected to be familiar with the newest cases of enterprises management and with the international conventions and rules in order to apply them competently. A good command of English and the capacity of independently dealing with the complicated managerial affairs and sufficiently participating in the high level administration are also expected on our students, thus we can provide compound and advanced administrative talents for foreign trade-oriented enterprises, real estate companies, high-tech enterprises, commercial groups, transnational company groups, foreign invested companies, large-sized enterprises at home and their relevant units.

　　The Foreign Languages Department, guided by the educational spirit of realistic approach, development and innovation, enjoys rich intellectual resources for both education and research. With public English teaching as its basic program and the education for English major as the core task, this department will be converted into a large college of foreign language and literature with a public foreign language teaching department, a foreign language training department, an institute of foreign culture and translation, offering the specialties of English, French, Germen, Japanese and so on. Presently some foreign teachers from England, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are teaching listening and speaking English in our department. At present, we offer the students English courses in traveling, translating, commerce.

　　The foreign language department takes the educational quality as its life, and innovation as its soul. The faculty aims to provide first-rate and outstanding language talents for society, and the department will eventually adopt the training model distinguished for the mastery of at least one foreign language and one skill to meet the compound demand of graduates of society.

　　In the next 5 years (2005-2010) we will invest RMB 200 million for the continuing development of our college. We intend to step into the ranks of the most famous private universities in China. The prospects for becoming a model university are exciting.Our continuing development will add 666,670 square meters, bringing total campus grounds to one million square meters.

　　In addition, we will enlarge one office building and rebuild a classroom building. This new construction will increase the building area from 280,000 sq. meters to 350,000 sq. meters.

　　Our physical plant is only our shell. The true value of the university to students is the quality of its faculty and staff. With that in mind, we expect to enlist the talents of known intellectuals and managerial specialists, increasing the number of the staff from 1,000 to 1,600, 70% of whom will hold medium or senior titles. During this exciting time of continuing development we expect our enrollment to grow from 22,000 to 30,000 students.

　　Continued growth and development to better serve our students will mark the following years. We expect the number of students to increase to 35,000. In order to continue to provide a quality education to our students we will increase to 1,500 teachers by 2020. The programs we offer students will keep pace with our growth in other areas, so that by 2020 our students will be able to choose from one of 35 degree programs. Total area will increase to 2.4 million square meters, with 630,000 square meters in the built-in area. Our assets will reach RMB 600 million, and our school will be rated as one of the finest universities in China and join the ranks of renowned international privately-endowed universities such as Cambridge in England.
